Blessed are the poor in spirit
Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.
The poor in spirit are those who recognize their own spiritual poverty and their need for God.
An example of this can be found in Luke 18:9-14
Where a tax collector recognized his own spiritual poverty and prayed for mercy and a proud self-righteous Pharisee boasted about his achievements.
Luke 18:14 says
The tax collector went home justified rather than the Pharisee because everyone that exalted himself shall be abased and he that humbles himself will be exalted(paraphrased)
Whenever we come before God, we should recognize and accept our unworthiness because the bible says all our righteousness is like filthy rags before God ( Isaiah 64:6)
As a student pray for the mercy of God to raise you to become an excellent student.
At work pray for the mercy of God to lift you to a position of honor
In ministry pray for the mercy of God to extend your ministry to all nations of the world.
A songwriter wrote:
Your grace and mercy
Has brought you through
I am living this moment
Because of you
I want to thank you
And praise you too
Your grace and mercy
Has brought me through
We should always remember that we are who we are not because of anything we have done or anything we possess but like the Apostle Paul said
I am who I am because of the grace of God….(1 Corinthians 15:10)
God be with you
Suggestions for success
1. Assess yourself and ask God to take away any pride and self-righteousness in your life.
Prayer
Let this song be your confession
All that I am
Oh Lord
Or ever hope to be
I owe it all, yes all to you my Lord.
This is my prayer Oh Lord
Of praise and Thanksgiving
I just can’t stop, no Lord
Giving you praise
Amen
