Preach the word
Preach the word
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
The common English Bible translation of this verse says:
Preach the word. Be ready to do it whether it is convenient or inconvenient. Correct, comfort and encourage with patience and instruction.
The Bible is the Christians manual and guide and it is important to present the word always to guide believers. Preaching the word involves explaining the word and giving examples of how it can be applied in our lives.
The verse above says we should be ready to preach at all times whether we are prepared or unprepared, convenient or inconvenient like soldiers should be ready whenever they are called for action.
When preaching the word we should aim at:
- Correcting
Galatians 6:1-2
- Comforting
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
- Encouraging
Philippians 4:13
- Instructing
Proverbs 3:5-6
Correcting
Galatians 6:1-2
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the spirit should watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
As Christians we are also human-beings and we err or disobey God sometimes. Christian brethren are not supposed to gossip about each other or criticize to destroy. Instead we are to correct or right wrongs. In other words we are to help each other stay away from sin. We can do this by:
- Using verse from scripture to direct one another on what to do (2 Timothy 3:16)
- Praying with them for the Holy spirit to help them overcome their sins (john 4:26)
- Giving personal testimonies (john 4:29)
Comforting
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Like a popular song says:
Sometimes in our lives
We all need someone
To lean on
Lean on me when
You are not strong
I will be your friend
I will help you
Carry on
For it won’t be long
When I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Just like the song above says, there are times when we all need to lean on someone for comfort.
Rimes when we need reassurance that God will come through for us. God Himself comforts us in our afflictions such that we can also comfort others who are afflicted. Comforting involves:
- Easing a person’s feelings of grief or distress with words of encouragement from the bible and with prayer
Encouraging
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.
The word van be used to encourage other people that no matter who they are, rich or poor, young or old, educated or uneducated, strong or weak God can give us strength to do whatever we have to do no matter the challenges we encounter or the obstacles we face.
With god all things are possible.
Instructing
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.
This passage encourages Christians to put all their trust in God and rely on him for strength and direction in all we do. Then we shall be successful and prosperous.
Think about the words of the song below:
The word is a see
When planted and watered
Grows to be great
You can be whatever
You want
You can achieve all your
Dreams if you only believe.
The word of God is her today
The word of god is here today
Coming night at you
Would you believe it
Dare to receive it
In a world where there
Are seasons and times
This is your season
Its’s time to shine again
You may be down
You may be discouraged
It will come to pass
Be strong, be encouraged
It’s on for while
The word of God is here today _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
