Psalm 118:1
Oh give thanks unto the Lord, all ye nations: praise Him, all ye people

A grateful heart is a heart that is full of appreciation or a heart that values a kind act or benefit received. Gratitude or gratefulness is often expressed through thanksgiving or saying thank you as stated in the verse above

There is a song that says:

According to the song above a grateful heart is very important because it is usually the condition required or holds the key to your breakthrough and victory over challenging situations.

Psalm 100:4 says
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: thankful unto Him, and bless His name.

The gates and courts of God allows you to enter into the presence of God. Praise and thanksgiving are important, if you want God to move on your behalf.

1Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice evermore, Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

The verse above also re-emphasizes the importance of thanksgiving or a grateful heart. It is God’s will or desire.
