Blessed are the merciful!!
Psalm 51:1-2
Be merciful to me oh Lord according to thy loving kindness…..according to the multitude of thy abundant mercies( paraphrased)

The word merciful in the bible has been associated with forgiveness and forbearance. It is signifies or stands for abundant compassion and true love.

The verse above from Psalm 51 which is a Psalm King David wrote to plead for forgiveness from God, talks about the Lord’s abundant mercy and loving kindness.

God is willing to forgive us if we repent sincerely and request for forgiveness. The bible says in Matthew 6:12 that

…..forgive us our trespasses (sins) as we forgive those who trespass against us

Meaning , when we forgive ( are merciful) then the Lord will also forgive us.
This is one of the blessings of being merciful.

Matthew 5:7
Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.

This verse from the new testament also confirms that it is beneficial to be merciful to others as it activates God’s mercy towards us as well
God be with you

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Never miss an opportunity to show mercy to others.
2. Your brother lied about you, forgive him. Your sister usurped your position, forgive her.

Meditate on the words of this song

Oh the love that drew salvation’s plan
Oh the grace that brought it down to man
Oh the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary

Mercy there was great
And grace was free
Pardon there was multiplied to me
There my burdened soul found liberty
At Calvary.
