Blessing in obedience
Hosea 14:6
His branched shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon
The Prophet Hosea was a prophet of doom. He announced the Lord’s anger against the Israelites and the punishment that will come with it.
In the last chapter of his book he shows the people of Israel the blessings they will receive if they returned to God. That is the blessing of obedience.
In the verse above, he says if they returned to the Lord they will be blessed abundantly and this is expressed figuratively in a tree that grows and blossoms well.
We may say we have not turned away completely from God but our little acts of disobedience, telling lies, cheating or stealing, disobeying our parents, not being faithful in soul winning etc. Puts us in the same category as the Israelites.
1 John 1:9 says
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Search your heart, identify areas in which you have disobeyed God, ask for forgiveness and cleansing and pray for grace and strength to obey the Lord always.
Revelation 2:10
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: …….be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
This verse from the new testament assures us that, if we remain faithful and obedient to God we will be rewarded with the crown of life or eternal life.
Seek to obey God always in whatever you do
God be with you
How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Pray for grace and strength to remain faithful to God always.
Prayer
Meditate on the words of this hymn
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word
What a glory He sheds on our way
While we do His good will
He abides with us still
And with all
Who will trust and obey
Trust and obey
For there is no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey.
Amen
