Honour thy Father and Mother
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy Father and thy Mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

This is the first commandment God gives with a promise attached. It could be an indication that this commandment is very important to Him. The development and growth of children depend largely on their parents ability to provide their needs and guide them on the right path in their faith(religion) and education. It is therefore very important for children to obey their parents.

Ephesians 6:2
Honour thy Father and Mother; which is the first commandment with promise.

Most of the time , children find it difficult to obey their parents because they are not old enough to understand issues related to living a successful life. I believe God added the promise to the commandment to encourage children to obey their parents even when they do not understand why they have to. Children should learn to obey and respect their parents and parents should train their children to become faithful servants of God who seek to glorify God in all they do
God be with you.

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Every child should see his/ her parents as their mentors. They should look up to them for direction on how to build a family and home.
2. Parents should set a good example for their children to follow.

Prayer

Loving Father , thank you for the gift of this day. Help all parents to set a good example for their children to follow and all children to obey and respect their parents. Amen.
