Lord fill me with compassion
Psalm 119:77
Let thy tender mercies (compassion) come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight

In my own words, I would say compassion or having compassion is feeling the pain of others in a way that will move you to help them.

In the verse above, the Psalmist was asking God to fill him with compassion. That should be our prayer as Christians. If we are all touched by our neighbor’s pain and we help them, I believe the world will be a better place.

There will be no more, hunger, sickness or untimely deaths because the rich nations will help the poor nations to feed the hungry, provide medication to heal the sick and prevent untimely deaths ( dying before your appointed time Hebrews 9:27).

Account of Jesus’ miracles in the new testament often begins with a statement about the compassion of Jesus’:
Luke 7:13
When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion……

Matthew 15:32
And Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I feel compassion for the people………”

Ask the Lord to fill you with compassion.

Hebrews 4:15
For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with our feelings of infirmity(not filled with compassion), but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin

Another scenario of the compassion of Jesus’ is seen in the fact that He was a man just like us he was tempted, challenged etc but He overcame all of them

We can therefore rely on Him to intercede on our behalf before God because He understands our weakness. He is therefore moved with compassion to plead on our behalf always.

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. You can search and identify people you can help, the disabled, the sick etc
2. When you yield to temptation, do not condemn yourself ask Jesus to plead on your behalf, he understands your weakness.
3. Ask God to fill you with compassion for the lost and move you to share the message of salvation

Prayer

Merciful God, fill me with compassion to reach out and help those in need and draw others to Christ. Amen
