Merciful God
Exodus 34:6-7
And the Lord passed by before him and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,…
To be merciful means to show kindness or forgiveness shown towards someone. This verse explains how merciful God is. He shows mercy to thousands of people by forgiving their iniquity, transgressions, and sins. Without the mercy of God, we will all perish. It was a mercy that moved Him to sacrifice His son to save us all.
Deuteronomy 7:9 says
Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to thousands of generations.
Note, God shows mercy not only to those of us living now but extends it to unborn generations after us.
Luke 6:36
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
The first two verses quoted assures us of God’s mercy. This one is encouraging as Christians and children of God to be merciful because the God we serve is merciful.
God be with you.
How can I apply the word to my life?
1. We should learn to forgive one another no matter how deeply we are hurt.
2. The Lord’s prayer says God should forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
3. If you want your sins to be forgiven, forgive others.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for your love and mercy. Help me to forgive as you forgive my trespasses.
Amen.
