My Master and my friend! [ June 3, 2023 ]
My Master and my friend!
Job 13:15
Though He slay me yet will I trust in Him;but I will maintain mine own ways before Him
The biblical definition of “Master” when it refers to Jesus is “Teacher” or “Lord”. A friend in biblical terms refers to a friendship based on a shared devotion to Jesus and the gospel.
In the verse above Job says though he is being slayed or he is suffering, he will still trust in God because he knows and believes that God has his welfare at heart.
No matter what happens to him God will work it out for his good because God is his Master and friend ( this is an implied explanation not quoted in the verse).
The bible says in 1 Samuel 3:10 that
….. speak, for thy servant heareth.
We live according to the will and commandments of God as christians, therefore ,He is our Master and we must give Him all the respect and honour He deserves.
John 15:15
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what His Lord doeth: but I have called you friends;for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
In this verse from the new testament, Jesus refers to His followers and disciples as friends.
Friends, because He shares His instructions from God and His mission on earth with them.
John 10:18 says
…….I have the authority to lay down my life and take it up again.
For a close and fruitful relationship with God, see Him as the Master ( He gives the rules) and friend ( He gives you the emotional and moral support you need to obey His rules)
God be with you
How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Respect and obey God’s commands in His word.
Prayer
Let this hymn be your prayer
Oh Jesus I have promised
To serve you to the end
Be thou forever near me
My Master and my Friend
I shall not fear the battle
If thou art by my side
Not wander from the pathway
If thou will be my guide
Oh Jesus thou hast promised
To all who follow thee
That where thou art in glory
There shall thy servant be
And Jesus I have promised to serve thee to the end
Oh give grace to follow
My Master and my Friend
Amen
