Joshua 1:8
This book of law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do all that is written in it, for then you shall make your way prosperous and have good success.

To excel as a student you have to study your books so you can pass all your examinations. In the same way, to excel as a Christian you have to study the word or the bible. Then you can overcome challenges and resist temptations.

In the verse above, Joshua shows us how to study the word. Read it day and night, memorize it and meditate on it ( think deeply and determine how to apply it to your life) and finally obey or do what it says.

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew (show) yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Timothy gives us another dimension of studying the word. Learn how to apply the word of God practically to every need in your life ( rightly dividing the word of truth).

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Set time apart each day to study the word. You can do a book study like studying the book of John or a topic study like learning what the bible teaches about faith, love, etc.
2. Aim at memorizing at least one verse in the bible thoroughly each day.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace, love, and mercy. Help me to study and apply your word daily. Amen.
