Take up thy cross
1 Chronicles 16:11
Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually.

In my own words I would say, taking up your cross involves dedicating your life to serve God no matter what it takes or no matter whatever sacrifices you have to make. Learn to seek the face of the Lord daily.

There is a song by Calvary Road Inc. which says
If any man wants to come after me
I will receive Him in peace to my rest
Only he should know that
Any man who holds the plough and looks back
Is not fit for my kingdom
Take up your cross follow me
Deny yourself follow me
Take up your cross if you want to be my disciple.

Like the song says any one who “takes the plough” that is anyone who decides to serve God and looks back or changes His/her mind because of challenges does not qualify to spend eternity in heaven.

Luke 9:23
And He said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily , and follow me.

The verse above also gives the same message given in the song.

To serve God faithfully and gain His favour you have to learn to sacrifice your time and comfort, your money, your honour (you may be a big man of God but you may have to for instance associate with a prostitute to win her to Christ) and other earthly possessions.
God be with you.

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Ask God to give you the grace to sacrifice whatever it takes to be a faithful disciple of God.

Loving Father, thank you for the gift of this day. Help me to continue to be a faithful witness no matter what it takes. Amen.
