The Lord is our portion
Joshua 24:15
….choose ye this day whom ye will serve. Whether the gods of our fathers…but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord

The “Lord is our portion” means, the Lord is our allotment, our inheritance and the source of our security and hope.

In the verse above, Joshua asked the people of Israel to openly declare their stand. Will they serve Jehovah God Almighty the one and only true God or the gods of their fathers?

It is also important for us to declare our stand openly. Some people fear to show they are christians at work or in school because they do not want to be ridiculed or compelled to live a life that is pleasing to God.

The bible says in Romans 8:17 that

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if it be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together

The verse above from Romans says if the Lord is our portion or we want to have a share in Christ’s inheritance and glory then we have to share in His sufferings as well.

We must learn to dedicate our lives to serving God no matter the cost

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, vigilant because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

This verse from the new testament reminds us that as we strive to share in the Lord’s suffering and glory, our adversary is still working trying to get us off-track.

Be alert at all times and pray for grace and strength to remain true to the Lord.
