The old rugged cross

Deuteronomy 21:22
And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree.

In the old testament, the cross or tree was used to hang criminals as punishment for their crimes.

After the death and resurrection of Jesus, the cross became a symbol of victory for Christians. In church history, there is a story about the Roman Emperor called Constantinople, who went to battle with the sign of the cross embossed on all his weapons(he said he had a dream or vision directing him to put the cross on all weapons). He had a great victory in that battle.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set at the right hand of the throne of God.

Jesus endured a shameful death on the cross because He knew after going through the ordeal He would be given the name that is above every name in heaven and on earth.

As a Christian, your victory is related to the work Jesus did on the cross. Cherish the cross and let it be a sign of victory in your life.
God be with you

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Let the cross and the work Jesus did be a point of reference for everything you do. For instance, when you are facing difficulties in your studies, confess that because of the work Jesus did on the cross, you have victory over everything including your studies.

Prayer
Dear Lord
I will cherish the old rugged cross till my trophies, at last, I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it someday for a crown. Amen.
