The creation story
The creation story
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form; and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said; Let there be light: and there was light.
One unique thing about the creation story is that everything with the exception of man and woman was created out of nothing. The statement” the earth was without form and void” means the earth was without any structure and empty. There was nothing that could be used as raw material to create. Man was created after all other things had been made and there was raw material like cla or dust of the earth.
The fact that God was able to create out of nothing but the words of his mouth makes Him superior to all deities and powers. He just called things into being, “let there be light: and there was light”. What can we learn about God from the creation story:
God is the creator
Genesis 1:1
Revelations 4:11
God is the author/perfector of all things
Genesis 1:31
Hebrews 12:2
God can do the impossible
Genesis 2:23
Matthew 19:26
God is the creator
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
This verse confirms that God is the creator of the universe and all that is in it, there was nothing. When you read the other verses in Genesis 1 you will find out that God called things into being. With His own imagination of how the world will look like and how it will operate, He called into being all the things he thought was necessary to make the universe a happy place to live in.
Revelations 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and fo0r thy pleasure they are and were created.
Another conformation that God created all things for his pleasure or for His enjoyment or joy. Genesis 1:31 says
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
God was proud and happy with what He had created. It gave Him some joy and satisfaction.
The fact that God was proud and happy with what he had created in God’s image. Every human being feels proud and satisfied when he /she creates or invents things.
Genesis 1:26-27
And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowls of air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that crepth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image………..
God is the author and perfector of all things
Genesis 2:2-3
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.
The passage above clearly says God ended His work of creation on the sixth day and rested on the seventh day. Meaning, He started the work of creation and ended it all by Himself (the author and finisher of all things)
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God
This verse from Hebrews describes Jesus as the author (initiator) and finisher (the one who makes our faith complete) of our faith. The chapter before this chapter (chapter 11) is devoted to the men and women of great faith in the bible. This implies that “faith” is a very important element in the life of a Christian. The testimony you bear as a child of God is enhanced by exercising your faith.
It is when you pray for people and get healed through faith, or you win other victories through your faith in Christ that you attract other people to God. Your faith can be increase or strengthened by the creation story. If God can call things into being then exercising your faith in the Lord through prayer would help you also achieve great things.
God can do the impossible
Genesis 2:23
And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.
Before God created the universe, it was an impossibility because nothing like that existed. When He created eve, Adam immediately saw her as an appropriate mate. But he had never seen anything like Eve. The creation story is a mystery; it is also a confirmation that God can do the impossible. God can provide the right answers and solutions to every problem even when its seems impossible. Turn all your problems over to God in prayer and He will make the impossible, possible.
Mathew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Indeed, with God all things are possible. Barren wombs bear children in old age (the story of Sarah Abraham’s wife, and Elizabeth Zechariahs wife) a path of dry land can be made available in the middle of the sea, for the Israelites to walk through. People are healed from different diseases and even the dead rise (the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from death) John 11:1-44
If God could create the universe and all that is in it, with all the complexities and benefits associated with living in this world, then He can do anything. Trust him fully and completely
