Without Me, You Can Do Nothing
Without Me, You Can Do Nothing
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
What does the Bible mean by “without me ye can do nothing”
Someone will say, I am not a Christian, I am an atheist, I do not believe in the existence of God or gods. But I am fine, I am well-educated, rich and I live comfortably, I have done something with my life without God.
The Bible says in 127:1-2 that: Except the Lord build a house the laborer labor in vain…
What am I trying to say?
Your achievements as an atheist were made on a wrong foundation. If the storm of life occur some day your building will fall flat. (Matthew 7:24-27)
But the one who trusts in God who may have made as much achievements as the atheist or maybe less has built on Christ the firm foundation may also experience the storms of life but his achievements may even stand after the storm because of Christ. He/She will have something but the atheist will have nothing.
How can you build your house/life on Christ the firm foundation so that you can withstand the storm of life?
– Accept the gift of salvation
Isaiah 9:6, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9-10
– Obey God’s commandment
Deuteronomy 28:1-2,13, 2 Timothy 2:15
– Seek to please God in all you do
Psalm 119:13, Hebrews 11:16
Accept The Gift Of Salvation
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulders: and his name shall be called wonderful, counsellor, the mighty God, The everlasting father, The prince of peace
The prophet Isaiah announced the birth of Christ several hundreds of years before it actually happened.
This is indication that salvation of mankind was very important to Him. He planned it carefully for a long time and put in place all the necessary things to make it happen perfectly.
The Jews thought they were punishing Jesus by being so cruel to Him.
Satan thought it was an opportunity to get his position back as an Archangel. With Jesus dead, there was a big gap in the God head.
Unfortunately for Satan, Jesus resurrected from the dead and condemned him permanently to to punishment in hell.
Mankind, in spite of their cruelty were given a brighter future of living forever in heaven.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
These two verses explain why we all need to salvation no matter who we are.
– Whether we are the worst sinners
– Or the best saints
Since we are all descendants of Adam and Eve who were the first to disobey God that Sin runs through our blood.
We all deserve to die because that is the wages or punishment for sin.
But God because of His great Love for us all made a way to be redeem us from this sin through Jesus death and resurrection.
When we accept the gift of salvation we profess our belief and acceptance of what Jesus did for us ( Romans 10:9-10)
Obey God’s Commandment
Deuteronomy 28:1-2
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord, thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
Deuteronomy 28:13
And the Lord shall make thee head, and not the tail: and thou shall be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day and observe and to do them.
According to the verses quoted above, obeying God’s commandments has great rewards and blessings.
When we obey His commandments we are saying we have put all our confidence in Him because we know that without Him we can do nothing.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This verse emphasizes the importance of studying the word of God well and applying it appropriately.
It will help you gain Gods approval. Gaining God’s approved brings you more blessings and favor with God.
Seek to please God in all you do
Psalm 119:133
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have domain over me
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
To be able to pleas God or find favor with God, we have to allow God to order or direct our steps is an indication that we believe in the existence of God.
This will qualify us to receive blessings and favor from God. Allowing us to say confidently that without God we can do nothing.
