He knoweth them that trust in Him
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble, and He knoweth them that trust in Him.
The goodness or kindness of the Lord is emphasized throughout the bible:
- Lamentations 3:22 says; It is of the Lords mercies (pity, forgiveness, kindness) that we are not consumed…
- James 1:17 says; Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
There are many more of such versus in the bible. The verse from Nahum says God is good and He knows those who trust in Him. God knows those who trust Him because He knows each person’s heart, those who are genuine and those who are fake.
How does God knows show, He knows those who trust in Him?
- He rewards them
Psalm 37:4-5, Matthew 5:11-12, Hebrews 11:6
- He protects them
Psalm 91:1-2, Psalm 91:9-10, Matthew 5:8
- He causes them to triumph
Isaiah 40:31, 2 Corinthians 2:14
HE REWARDS THEM
Psalm 37:45
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desire of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass.
When you trust God you prove it by:
- Dedicating your life to serving Him ( Psalm 37: 4)
- You commit or tell God about all your plans because you know He can help you achieve it (Psalm 37:5)
The passage quoted above says when you enjoy serving God (Delight thyself in the Lord) and ( You ask God to direct your affairs)or commit your ways to Him. He should grant you the desires of your heart and cause your plans and intensions to be successful That is your reward.
Matthew 5:11-12
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of things against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven. It is only those who trust in God that will allow people to molest them for the gospel’s sake because they know they will be rewarded.
Hebrew 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for He that cometh to God must believe He is, and That He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
Trusting or having faith in an invisible God is not easy. But when you believe without any doubt that God exists though you cannot see Him then will reward your faith and trust in Him.
HE PROTECTS THEM
Psalm 91:9-10
Because thou hast made them Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy inhabitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling place.
According to the passage above once you put your trust in God, He will protect you from all forms of harm. You need to fear or worry because God is faithful and He always Keeps His promises.
Matthew 5:8
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
“Pure in heart” refers to internal purity. Jesus says “Pure in heart” to show His concern with our hearts position. Jesus does not waste time speaking to our external disposition because the ‘heart’ shows a person’s real character.
Jesus says the pure in heart will see God or enjoy the Lords presence. The bible says in the presence of God there is fullness of joy.
We are free from harm and the evil one’s attacks. God fully protects us.
HE CAUSES THEM TO TRIUMPH
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength ; they shall mount up with wings as eagle; they run and not be weary, and not faint.
When you trust in God, you love to spend time in His presence, reading the bible, praying and singing unto the Lord (waiting on the Lord)
Then, the Lord will renew or restore your strength and cause you to succeed in all your endeavors.
2Corinthians 2:14
Now thanks be to God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place.
When you trust in God, He will always cause you to triumph. Some people say it is not as simple as that. Yes, the Lord works through mysterious ways, he might lead you through a winding path but He eventually will cause His own to triumph and vindicate them.
I end with the words of this hymn;
Be still my soul
The Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy Lord to order and provide
in every change
He faithful will remain
Be still my soul, thy best
Thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
