Do not compromise
Do not compromise
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
To compromise has three definitions in the dictionary. I will like to dwell on the one that says:
To bring into this disrepute or danger by indiscreet, or reckless behavior.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says what? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the holy ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and ye are not your own, for ye are bought with a price therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods.
It is common to hear people say things like
After all it is my body, I can do what I want with it, or
Everybody plays the foot, there is no exception to the rule (this statement comes from a popular song)
The passage above clearly states that our bodies are not our own, we are the temple of God, therefore, we should glorify Good on our body. God bought us at a price-the shed blood of His son Jesus Christ.
We cannot do what we want with our body, or play the fool when we want to because the spirit of God dwells in us.
How can we prevent ourselves from compromising or defiling our bodies with immoral acts like fornication and adultery? We can do so by:
Avoiding bad company
1 Corinthians 15:33
Free from our lust
2 Timothy 2:22
Praying
Ephesians 6:18
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Avoiding bad company
1 Corinthians 15:33
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. If you build close relationship with people who think:
They can do what they want with their bodies
They can play fool once in a while
You will end up doing the same thing because like the verse above says they will influence your behavior. Before long, you will find yourself indulging in sexual sins. The best things to do is to avoid such people. You do not have to completely cut off your relationship, but do not spend too much time with them. Whenever you meet them share the gospel with them.
Fleeing from our lust
2 Timothy 2:22
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that calls on the lord out of a pure heart.
One man of God who tried to explain the verse above said “fleeing” is a movement in between flying and running. meaning, as soon as you find your mood changing fund whatever excuse you have to leave that place quickly do not try to act like a “spiritual macho”. Playing with our emotions is like playing with fire it will burn the heart greatly.
Spend your energies and efforts to follow or lead righteous life, exercise your faith, show agape love and live peaceably with all men.
This should be your desire as a young man or woman who seek to glorify God and draw others into the kingdom of God.
Praying
Ephesians 6:18
Praying always with all prayer and supplications in the spirit, and watching there unto with all perseverance and supplications for all saints.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray without ceasing
Prayer will give you the grace and strength you need to stand or fight against your lust. It is therefore it is important to pray at all times, at least three times a day, morning, afternoon and evening, just us you take meals to sustain yourself.
Learn to pray not only by speaking out loud but learning to pray quietly so that you can pray whenever you find yourself without disturbing anyone.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 says
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people-for kings and all those in authority that we have lived peacefully and quiet lives I all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our savior, who wants all people to be saved, and to become a knowledge of the truth
Conclusion
God wants us all men to be saved so spend as much time as you can, praying for this to happen, and going out to win souls as well to make it real.
