Be of good cheer: it is I, be not afraid.
Be of good cheer: it is I, be not afraid.
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
For they shall saw him, and were troubled. And immediately He talked with them, and saith unto them,
Be of good cheer: it is
I, be not afraid.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him, male and female created He them.
God created us in His image as the verse immediately above says God created us in His image. Therefore He knows what He put in each of us. He knows our
- Fears
- Joys
- Anxieties etc.
Thus, in Mark 6:50
When He realized that His disciples were scared, when they saw Him walking on water, He quickly stepped in to calm them saying:
Be of good it is I,
Be not afraid.
These words of assurance applies to all of us: as Christians. This is confirmed in following ways:
- He knows or frame
Psalm 103:13-14
John 16:33
John 14:1
- He loves us with an everlasting love
Jeremiah 31:3
1 John 4:7
- You are “MINE”
Isaiah 43:1-2
Psalm 17:8
Matthew 10:3
He knows our frame
Psalm 103: 13-14
Like as a father piteth His children, so the Lord piteth them that fear them.
For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
I believe one of the major reasons God loves us so much is because He knows and understands our weaknesses. As the passage above says “we are dust” we are here today gone tomorrow.
Psalm 103:15 says
As for man, His days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flouisheth .
Therefore God always ensures that we are well catered for. This is confirmed in Psalm 23:1-6.
John 14:1
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
God is aware that as humans w are bound to worry and fret about uncertain situations in our lives. His word to us is “let not your heart be troubled” it means
- Fear not
- Be still
- Be calm
God will fix it if you trust Him fully and completely
John 16: 33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world.
In the verse above, Jesus says I know you will encounter challenges, obstacles, temptations, trials etc. therefore, I am informing you ahead of time that you prepare for these uncertainties. You will overcome or have victory over these things because I the Lord your savior have already won the victory for you.
He loves us with an everlasting love
Jeremiah 31:3
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, year, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.
An everlasting love is a love that never ends. Nothing can stop it.
Romans 8, 38 – 39
Shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Nothing can stop God from loving us. This is very comforting or these are words of comfort. We are being assured that even if it looks like all has been lost, there is someone who still looks out for us and seeks our welfare.
(Jeremiah 29:11)
1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
According to the verse above God is love that is His nature. Therefore if you say the Lord is your savior and keeper then you should love your neighbor as the bible says. Be kind and generous, show concern for the afflicted, help the helpless etc.
You are “MINE”
Isaiah 43’1-2
But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by name; thou art mine.
When thou passeth, the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers they shall not overflow thee: when thou would the fore, thou shalt not be burdened.
In the passage above God states clearly that we are His prized possession. He is always with us to protect us.
God is proud to declare to the whole world that you belong to Him. He brought you with a price and thus we all have to glorify God with our bodies.
Psalm 17:8
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.
The verse above is a plea to god to keep or protect him. Each of us can also do the same.
Matthew 10:31
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
The emphasis in the verse above on the fact that God will certainly take care of us because we are of much more value the sparrow.
Sparrows do not sow or reap any harvest but God ensures they are well fed and nourished each day. He also provides a shelter for them to rest at night.
He will do the same for all His own because we are of much more value to Him than the sparrows.
