SAVED BY GRACE
SAVED BY GRACE
BY EVANGELINE UNITY ESAABA FOLSON
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by Grace are we saved through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Grace can simply be defined as unmerited favor. To save is to rescue or remove from harm or danger. Jesus Christ rescued us from the dangers of living in sin-burning eternally in the fire of hell. This explained further in Matthew 13:42
And will throw them into the furnace of fire, in that place, there will be weeping, and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus did this not because we deserved it, but because He loved us. Even though man had sinned and turned away from God, He still went ahead to suffer and die in order to save us. This is an act of love and Grace, unmerited favor.
The work of salvation was completed a long time ago. Nothing we do now can change or make it better. How can we receive the gift of salvation?
We can:
- Accept it as a gift Ephesians 2:8-9
- 1 Corinthians 4:7
- Do good as we are created to do
- Ephesians 2:10
- Matthew 5:16
ACCEPT IT AS GIFT
1 Corinthians 4:7
For who maketh thee to differ from other? And what hast thou that thou didst not rescue? Now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hast not received it.
There is nothing in terms of good works can do to earn salvation. Like Ephesians 2:8-9 says we are saved by Grace, it is a gift. The gift of salvation does not come to us because of the good works we do. If you give to the poor, charity foundations, etc. all your life and you do not accept the gift of salvation as the bible directs in Romans 10:9 That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved.
Salvation is just a gift you have to accept. Good works cannot earn you your salvation. This is very important we all need to understand so that we can explain better when we go out to win souls for the Lord.
DO GOOD AS WE WERE CREATED TO DO
Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.
Good works cannot save you but after you have accepted the gift of salvation, good works are necessary to show to those around you that you have experienced some change in your life. It also glorifies God and attracts others to get closer to the God that has caused so much positive change in your life. For the former things are passed away (Revelation 21:4)
CONCLUSION
Always remember that you have been saved by grace. That is, you have been rescued from the danger of spending eternity with the devil and his fallen angels in hell.
You did not deserve this great favor but the love and mercy of God qualified you to be saved and to spend eternity with God, Jesus His Son, and the heavenly beings in heaven where there will be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying neither there be any more pain.
