RESCUE THE PERISHING
RESCUE THE PERISHING
BY EVANGELINE UNITY ESAABA FOLSON
2 CORINTHIANS 5: 11
Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
The bible tells us that God is a very loving God. It also says that no one can stand the wrath of God. 2 Corinthians 5:11 warns us about the wrath of God. It is terrible. God’s greatest desire is to see that the whole world is saved and non will perish.
JOHN 3: 36 SAYS:
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Like The Verse Says
God wants all of us to believe in the Son (Jesus) that we might have eternal life. If we do not believe in Jesus the wrath or anger of God will come on us. We must rescue or save those who are perishing or being destroyed because they do not believe in God.
How do we rescue the perishing?
- Telling them about the love of God. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- Living a life that would attract others to God (1 Timothy 4:12)
- Loving your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:39)
- Giving (Matthew 5:40-42)
- Doing whatever it takes to save a soul (1 Corinthians 9:19-22)
TELLING THEM ABOUT THE LOVE OF GOD
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. These are Jesus’s last words to His disciples. They were to:
- Go and teach all nations About His love and great sacrifice for man.
- Baptize them after they have been saved.
- Teach the nations about the commands Jesus had given them.
- Be bold because He would be with them always until the end of the world.
This is the job description for all Christians and children of God. We should be serious about it because someday we will be judged based on what we do.
Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment.
LIVING A LIFE THAT WOULD ATTRACT OTHERS TO GOD
I TIMOTHY 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity (love), in spirit, in life, in purity.
One of the most effective ways of witnessing or preaching the gospel is to set an example with your life.
Determine in your heart to study the word thoroughly and know all God’s commandments. Obey every one of them as best as you can. When you wake up each morning read the Bible and pray, asking God to help you obey His word as you go through the day. When you have to make a decision look for Scripture related to the issue you are considering and make a decision based on the word.
Do not take the name of the word lightly. Respect it and use it when appropriate. Do not steal, Do not commit adultery or fornication. Honor thy father and mother and do not covet your neighbor’s possession. Above all love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And love your neighbors as yourself. This is a summary of God’s Commandments. Check Deuteronomy 5 for the details.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF
MATTHEW 22:39
And the second is like unto it, though shall love thy neighbor as thyself.
According to Jesus, this is the second great commandment. In my opinion, it is because if you love your neighbor as yourself, you will not disobey God’s commands. You will not kill, steal, commit adultery tec. Determine in your heart, to love your neighbor. I John 4: 12 says:
No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelled in us, and His love is perfect in us.
GIVING
MATTHEW 5:40-42
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go within two. Give unto him that asketh thee, and from him will borrow of thee turn not thou away.
This passage encourages us to treat those who mistreat us with love. It is also another way of setting an example with your life so that others may see and get attracted to the God you serve.
Even when people try to cheat you, do not respond by demanding your right e.g. from the passage above it says if someone tries to take your coat, give him your cloak as well. Respond with love and you will turn the person to God.
DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SAVE A SOUL
I CORINTHIANS 9:19-22
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
And unto the Jews, I became as a Jew; to them that are under the Law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law.
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them without law. To the weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to all men, that I might, by all means, save some. Doing whatever it takes does not mean, engaging in the sun to win someone to Christ. All the examples given by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9 are all acceptable, based on the word of God.
It only implies that if you have to sacrifice things like your time, money, energy, and comfort to win someone over to Christ. DO IT.
CONCLUSION
Consider the words of this hymn:
- Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave
Weep over the erring one
Lift up the falling
Tell them off Jesus the
Mighty to save
Chorus
Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Jesus is merciful
Jesus to save
- Rescue the perishing
Duty demands it
Strength for thy labor
The Lord will provide
Back to the narrow way
Patiently win them
Tell the poor
Wonderer a savior has died.
