Ask in Faith
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 1:7 For let not man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord
James 1:8 A double – minded man is unstable in all his ways
Faith is a bible principle that has been misused by Christians. Some covet their neighbor’s possessions and claim it by faith when the bible clearly states in Deuteronomy 5:21 …You shall not desire (covet) your neighbor’s house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his OX or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
The verse above is part of the 10 commandments God gave Moses. This implies that it is something the Lord is very concerned about.
Obeying it will attract blessings and disobeying it will attract a curse.
John 15:6-7 says
If a man abides not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Abiding in the Lord, means to obey the Lord’s commands. Verse 6 says those who do not abide in the Lord or disobey his commands will be cast forth into fire, and be burned, that is destroyed.
However, verse 7 says those who obey the Lord will receive a whatever they desire.
This confirms that obeying God attracts blessings and disobeying God attracts a curse.
The passage from James 1:6-8 says when we request things from God we should do so in faith. To ask in faith involves.
- Believing without any doubt that God will answer (nothing wavering)
- Not being “double minded” that is keep making negative confessions about your request though you are expecting a positive answer.
The Bible says if you waver in your or you waver in your faith or you are double-minded you cannot receive anything from the Lord.
How can you prevent yourself from wavering in your faith or being double-minded:?
- You can affirm your faith with the word of God Jeremiah 32:27, Hebrews 11:1-35
- You can sing songs of praise, worship and thanksgiving Psalm 22:3, 1 Thessalonians 5:18
- Think Positive Proverbs 23:7, Philippians 4:8
You can affirm your faith with the word of God
Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?
God confirms in the verse above that there is nothing he cannot do. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20)
Therefore, there is no need to wear or shake in our faith, He can and He will do what we are asking in His time. That is what makes things a little difficult but He will surely come through for you.
Hebrew 11, gives a long list of bible character who against hope, maintained their faith until God came through.
There were some that did not receive the promise in their lifetime but God still perfected their faith.
There is no need to waver in our faith, God keeps His promise, even if not in your generation, your descendants will enjoy the fruits of your faith (Hebrews 11:38-46)
You can sing songs of praise, worship and thanksgiving
Psalm 22:3
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praise of Israel.
The verse above indicates that Praises attract the presence of God. If praise, worship and thanksgiving can attract the presence of God then cultivating a habit of singing praise, worship and thanksgiving songs will keep your faith from wavering because the bible says
I the presence of God, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11)
Thou wilt shew (show) me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
1Thessalonians 5:18
In everything give thanks: this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
It is God’s desire that we give thanks at all times. In good times to thank Him for His blessings, and in bad times to thank Him for the victory He will give us (you).
You must think Positive
Proverbs 23:7
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: eat and drink, saith he to thee; but heart was not with thee.
You are what you think and believe you are because your mind or brain controls your whole body. If you think positive and you are optimistic, it keeps your faith from wavering and you will receive what you ask for. Hold fast to your faith and do not waver.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; If there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
When your mind is filled with only good and positive though all things will work for your good
