TRUST IN GOD
TRUST IN GOD
BY EVANGELINE UNITY ESSABA FOLSON
PSALM 20:7
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
PROVERBS 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.
There is some controversy on whether there is a difference between the word faith and trust or they have the same meaning.
The Oxford English mini dictionary defines faith as reliance, trust, belief in religious doctrine. Trust is defined as a firm belief in the reliability, strength, or truth of someone or something, confident expectation.
Comparing these two definitions we can say that faith is a belief in doctrine while trust is a belief in someone or something. Trusting God, therefore involves belief in God and His ability to do the impossible. Why must we trust in God? According to two quotations from the bible given, we must trust God because:
- He has a name that is above every name (Philippians 2:9-10)
- We cannot rely on our own understanding (Proverbs 19:21)
- We must acknowledge Him in all we do (Psalm 37:5, Proverbs 16:3)
- He can direct our paths and lead us to success (Isaiah 30:21)
HE HAS A NAME THAT IS ABOVE ALL NAME
PHILIPPIANS 2:9-10
Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name.
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.
After Jesus’ death and resurrection God, highly rewarded Him and made His name higher than any other name in the universe. The verse above says (things in heaven, and things in earth and things under the earth).
It is therefore beneficial to trust in God and His Son Jesus because no matter the location or power of the principality (Spiritual power) confronting you because Jesus’s name is above every name. when you call on His name in the time of trouble that principality would have to bow and flee from you.
WE CANNOT RELY ON OUT OWN UNDERSTANDING
PROVERBS 19:21
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (NIV)
According to this verse, a man or woman might have several plans for his/her life but is only god’s purpose that will come to pass, therefore, it is important to put your trust in God at all times.
For example, when you plan to study, ask God to give you the wisdom to help you study and pass all your examinations. When you pray believe that what you have requested would be granted.
Do your part by attending all lectures and studying seriously for every exam connected with the course you ae studying and you will succeed.
WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE HIM IN ALL WE DO
PSALM 37:5
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; He shall bring it to pass.
Proverbs 16:3
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
If you want your plans and desires to become true or fulfilled then you have to entrust or place it in God’s care. Trusting God to let our plans purposes come true is the best way you can ensure that every request of yours is granted.
Tell God about everything you want to do. It does not matter whether it is a small project, tell Him about it. Every step you take in life must be ordered by God.
Psalm 119:113
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
HE CAN DIRECT OUR PATHS AND LEAD US TO SUCCESS
ISAIAH 30:21
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, this is the way, walk in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Some people do not believe that God still speaks to His children. Like the prophet Isaiah said to learn how to hear from God, He can give you directions on what to do at every point in your life.
There examples in the old and in the old and new testament of the bible of God speaking to his children.
In the Old Testament, He spoke to Moses in the burning bush, and when He gave Him the Ten Commandments (Exodus 3:4-5, Exodus 20:1-18). He spoke to Prophet Samuel when he was only a child (I Samuel 3:3-14)
When you go to the New Testament there is an example of God speaking to the Apostle Paul (Acts 9:4). God also spoke to Joseph through an angel before Jesus was born (Mathew 1:20).
Pray and ask God to show you how to know when He is speaking to you.
CONCLUSION
It is important to trust God at all times and in all situations because He alone can deliver you from the devil’s attacks and show you the way to success in life.
