WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT
WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL
SERVANT
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
His Lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant, thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make the ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
The verse above, is an excerpt from one of the parables Jesus told His disciples. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus I the Gospel.
In the parable above, Jesus was trying to teach His disciples the benefits of being good and faithful to God and in a way to your earthly masters as well.
If you read the whole story from Matthew 25:14-34
- Jesus rewarded the servants who used their talents and received returns
Matthew 25:2—23
- Jesus punished the servant who did not use his talents
Matthew 25:24-30
Matthew 25:20 – 23
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents: behold, I have queried beside them five talents more. His Lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou unto the joy of the lord.
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord thou deliveredst unto me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
His Lord unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things enter thou unto the joy of thy Lord.
Lessons from passage
- God has given each of us talents. Some have more, others have less.
- God, like the Lord in the parable is expecting us to use these talents to win more souls unto the kingdom of God.
For instance some people, can sing, play an instrument and minister in song alone. Others can sing only or only play an instrument. This represents the 5 ,2 and 1 talent given by the master or Lord.
- If you have more talents you have to win more souls according as you have been blessed. To whom much is given much is expected (Luke 12:48)
- As you use your talent more so you can increase your harvest of souls (thou have been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things)
- You will enter into the joy of the Lord or the rest of the Lord. And you will be blessed in so many other ways.
Matthew 25:24-26
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I know thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sworn, and gathering where thou hast not straw,
And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
His Lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knowest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strawed.
Lessons from passage
- God expects everyone to use his/her talent to win souls. If you are too timid to talk to strangers you can record songs or sermons or write about the revelations you receive on the Bible
- Never, sit idle doing nothing with your talent because you are shy, sick etc. Everyone can do something.
- If you do nothing you will be punished; Your talent will be taken away and given to someone else who has proved he/she will use it.
- You will be punished by God as He thinks fit.
Matthew 5:27-30
Elaborates on what God did to the servant who did not use his talent.
- He took the one talent and gave it to the one who had more.
- The servant was cast into outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, i.e. hell.
- As Christians therefore, it is in our interest to use the talents and gifts we have to edify or build the church and to win for the kingdom of God.
Meditate on the words of this song:
It is a great thing to serve the Lord
It is a great thing to serve the Lord
It is a great thing to serve the Lord
Serving in the light of God
Walk in the light
Walk in the light
Walk in the light
Walking in the light of God.
Let’s serve faithfully so that when we stand in Judgment before God, He will say, “Well done good and faithful servant?”
