Blessed are the poor in spirit
Blessed are the poor in spirit
By Evangeline unity Esaaba Folson
Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God
“poor in Spirit” is an odd phrase to modern ears, outside religious circles. The traditional, especially among evangelicals, is that it means people who recognize their own spiritual power or their need for God.
The bible says the kingdom of God belongs to the poor spirit. sometimes the kingdom of God is also called the kingdom of heaven.
It’s is the spiritual realm over which God reigns as King, or the fulfillment on earth of Gods will.
Why does the bible say, the kingdom of God belongs to the poor in spirit? I believe, it is because everyone who recognizes his/her need for God:
• Acknowledges the existence of God even though he is not seen.
Hebrews 11:6, John4:12
• Acknowledges the loved of God
Psalm 5:11-12 john 3:16
• Acknowledges God’s power
Jeremiah 32:27 Ephesians 3:20
• Is willing to surrender his/ her life to serve God.
Philippians 1:21, psalm 27:4
Acknowledges the existence of God
Hebrews 11:16
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh, to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
When you believe that God exist though you do not see Him physically then you have the faith or ability to understand the things of God and accept Him you God and King.
With this belief and understanding you know and accept that the kingdom of God is real and you look forward to spending eternity with in heaven.
1 John 74:12
No man hath see God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us and this love is perfected un us.
Like the verse above says, no one mot even the great men of God in the bible like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses David saw God physically. They saw things like fie (Moses), bright light, strong wind e.t.c. Yet they believed without any doubt that God exist even if you cannot see Him, just consider His creation and affirm your faith in him.
Acknowledge the love of God
Psalm 5:11-12
But let all those who put their trust in thee rejoice; let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
For thou, loved, will bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
Those that recognize the love of God trust and rejoice in Him because they believe and know all that the bible says is true. They believe through God’s great love of sacrificing His Son, all Christians have hope of eternal life in heaven.
John 3;16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
believe in God and have everlasting life.
Acknowledges the power of God
Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the lord, thy God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for me?
If there is nothing too hard for God to do, then He has all power to do even what seems impossible to man. He can create a heaven where we can all live blissfully forever.
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
The verse above says that God can do exceedingly abundantly above whatever we can think or ask. This implies we humans cannot even imagine or understand God’s power and greatness.
Creating a heaven with the golden streets and mansions as Revelations 21:21 says is possible.
Revelations 21:21
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the streets of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.
We cannot even imagine how beautiful heaven will be. Anyone who recognizes his/her need for God believes and accept all these things and lives in expectation of living in heaven with God, Jesus, the angels e.t.c.
Is willing to surrender his/her life to serve God
Psalm 27:4
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in His temple.
Everybody who feels or recognizes his/her need for God will have the same desire the psalmist King David expresses in the verse above. Always willing and ready to serve God in whatever way or capacity he/she can. He knows and believes that serving God faithfully will earn him a place in heaven.
Philippians 1:21
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Every Christian should have the attitude of the Apostle Paul expressed in the verse above. Once you are alive, do everything you can to glorify God in all you do. No matter what it cost. The bible says be thou faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life (Revelations 2:10)
Conclusions
Heaven is real and so are all the promises of God in the bible. Surrender your life to God, accept Jesus as your Lord and personal savior and receive the gift of eternal life to be spent in heaven with God and all the heavenly beings.
